The Penticton Pinnacles shut down Vernon Kal Tire 2-0 in Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League play Thursday night at Parkinson Sports Field in Kelowna.
Both teams showed up with only 12 players so it became a battle of willpower on a hot, smoky night.
The first half saw both teams get a couple of chances but it finished scoreless. Play went both ways in the final 45 but it was Penticton (8-4-3) who struck near the 67th minute with a great passing play that led to a well-placed 22-yard shot that landed bar down.
Kal Tire pressed hard with no luck. Penticton earned their second goal on a weary Kal Tire back line. The last-place tiremen (2-10-2) have a make-up game Tuesday night at Beasley Park versus league-leading Tree Brewing FC.
Meanwhile, Brandt’s Creek of Kelowna brushed back Vernon Kal Tire 2-1 in 55+ action Thursday night at Marshall Field #1.

Defender Kim Sandana moved up and beat Kal Tire substitute keeper Ted Sheehan with a 15-yard corker at 12 minutes.
Right fullback Rob Parkin fed striker Kevin Mitchell with a long looping pass inside the 18 and Mitchell converted past Todd Ryder at 24 minutes. Parkin was named the Kiki Gardens Man of the Match with honourable mention going to winger Bob Fleming.
The Pubbers are 8-6, while Kal Tire is 4-11.
