The first-place Penticton Pinnacles shut down Vernon Kal Tire 1-0 in Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League play on a rainy Thursday night at Mission Sportsfields.

The first half was scoreless with both teams having one good attempt.

In the second half, Kal Tire came out strong and started to control the play but could not finish despite a few shots on goal.

The lone goal came in the 85th minute when Penticton pushed hard and caught the Kal Tire defence short on match-ups and a cross came in to two Pinnacles with Adam Vallis poking the ball in.

Penticton went to 7-0, while Kal Tire fell to 2-4. The Tiremen entertain Executive Flooring/Inc/Enco of Kelowna Thursday, 6:30 p.m., at MacDonald Park.

Meanwhile, the Rockstars upended Sir Winstons Attack 4-1 in women’s Division 2 play Thursday night at Marshall Field.

It was scoreless at the half but killer striker Sherah Grant pulled the hat trick and Jessica Tanner added a single in the final 40. Ruth Delisle and Amanda Hackman did an awesome job on defence and Katie Squair hustled her butt in midfield.

Player of the Match for the Attack was easily keeper Azra Cawley with a shutout in the first half and some amazing dives, jumps and aggressive challenges.

Most Sportsmanlike Player went to Sam Orr, who quietly and capably played a brilliant game in centre midfield. Orr repeatedly won tough tackles with grace and a fair play attitude. Striker Brandi Wejr kept hustling the entire game, coming away with one beautiful goal.

The Sistas toppled Collaborate Wellness 4-1 in other action.

The Sistas welcomed newcomers Carli Berry up front and  Amy Kremoviec at midfield, both showing well in pink colours.

Waverly Vanderbeen and Kris Ponto split the goalkeeping duties well.

Central midfielder Amanda Penner scored for the Wellness gang. Lady of the Match went to Meighan Faulkner for her tireless efforts in both midfield and defence with a smile and tons of heart and hustle.

Denis Chabot pulled the hat trick as Vernon Kal Tire bounced Brandt’s Creek Pub of Kelowna 4-0 in Okanagan Men’s 55+ League play Thursday night.

Jenne Huberts connected on a 35-yard looper to finishing the offence with Yogi Kongsdorf posting the easy shutout.

Man of the Match was midfielder-turned fullback Gary Dill, who ran miles and fed Chabot a beauty feed from the flank for his hat-trick snipe.

Kal Tire is 3-2-1, while the Pubbers dipped to 2-2-2.

 

Kelowna #1 downed the Silver Stars 5-1 at Mission Sportsfields with Steve McCourt scoring for the Stars in the dying minutes.
