The Penticton Pinnacles bounced Vernon Kal Tire 4-1 in a Kelowna Men’s 35+ Soccer League showdown Monday night at Beasley Park.
The tiremen are awaiting a ruling from the league since Penticton (8-1) did not bring their player cards which is supposed to be an automatic forfeit.
Penticton struck for two goals in the opening half with the first off a 15-yard shot and the other a poked shot that deflected off the heel of Kal Tire defender Jason Beck.
In the second half, Penticton got their third when forward Sam Wingham got a lucky bounce past the defence and then did what Kal Tire described as a World Cup dive on sliding keeper Chris Bader in the penalty area. The PK was converted.
Kal Tire came back with a great build from the back line that saw several passes leading to Jesse Knight breaking through for his 15th goal of the season. Penticton snuck a late one in as subless Kal Tire (7-3) got caught pressuring.
Vernon’s Turn-Key Controls bowed 5-1 to Nation of Domination Eagle Homes in a North Okanagan Soccer League make-up tilt Sunday night.
NOD (6-2) scored at 20 minutes on a nice ball over the top of the defence and a lucky bounce off a Reid Foreter slide tackle right to a player waiting on the corner of the six-yard box.
Turn-Key (6-2-1) equalized 10 minutes when Gregg Douma’s goal kick led to a Conan Ackert flick onto Andrew Pool, who ran onto the ball and connected. NOD went in front on a free kick that bounced just inside the 18 and was tapped by Douma just before half. Turn-Key came out pressing in the final half without any luck and NOD capitalized on three rebound chances.
Meanwhile, Akbal Mund scored his first goal in eight years as the Okanagan Spring Brewery Camels iced the Rutland Spirit 10-0 in Capri Insurance 45+ League play at Marshall Field #1.
Mund nailed a Cameroon-like header from the top of the 18 to bust his snipe slump. Al Murphy (2), Don Balcombe, Gord Howard, Rob Parkin, Mike Daly, Zane Klym and Rick Raber also tallied for the 5-4-1 humpbacks, who gained one own goal. Ron Krause and Dave Dutcher shared the shutout. Rutland fell to 0-10.
The ever-improving Bosman Accounting earned a 2-2 draw with host Lake Country under the late lights at Beasley Park.
Central defender Glenn Verdurmen, on a free kick in the opening minutes, and roadrunner winger Gerry Geelkerken, on a sweet steal and shot, later in the first half, supplied the goals for Bosman (3-6-1). Sammi Kimpian and Neil McNeil scored for the Lakers (4-2-3), who couldn’t penetrate the Bosman five-man back line in the second half, a plan orchestrated by injured striker Henk Bosman.
Bosman had one late run inside Laker territory in the final 45 with ex-Laker Laurent Dansereau streaking 30 yards down the left flank, cutting to the net and feeding Ian Murphy for a header which struck the crossbar. James Cotter put the rebound wide and the final whistle sounded.
Dan Rogers, Kilmer Hagen, Alex DeBoersap, Greg Thalheimer, Alex Yakovlev and Verdurmen all earned their showers on the Bosman back line.
North Country Appraisals Kickers stretched their winning streak to five games with an intense 3-2 decision over Big O Tire-Turn-Key Ogopogos at the cow field known as Marshall #2.
The third-place Kickers (8-2) held a 2-0 half-time lead on goals by Wil Kruiper and Steve Reston. Duane Dennis just missed on a couple of hard blasts and the Ogopogos enjoyed other chances but were denied by Kicker keeper David Gadd.
Big O (3-7) got to within one early in the second half when defender Ruben Cerventes moved up and converted from in tight after a corner. The goal came with the Kickers down a man. Floyd Ryan restored the two-goal lead after a fine pass from Kruiper. Big O responded when Volker Otto connected on a gorgeous header off a corner.
Second-place Brown Benefits worked extra hard in the extreme heat for a 3-1 win against the determined Vernon Liquor Store Stallions at Parkinson Field #9. Nigel Clack scored a PK for the Stallions.
The Stallions (5-4-1) started the game better than Browns, creating several early chances but failing to capitalize. Browns (9-0-1) took the lead in the 30th minute when Steve Nater cracked a beauty from 18 yards, leaving Stallions’ keeper Ted Lurkins paralyzed like he was standing in warm water at his summer cabin.
Just before the interval, Larry Kinakin danced Messi-like through four defenders and fired top right corner. After the restart, Browns asked all the questions and only two top-draw saves from Lurkins kept the score 2-0
Lionel Hoffman finally got through the resilient Stallion back four on a breakaway at 75 minutes. However, there was a final twist in the tale on 85 minutes when Paul McCardle deftly jinked past two Brown defenders before being brought down in the box. Nigel Clack stepped up and calmly converted the PK.
Penticton Dental Center United stuffed the Kelowna Rented Mules 4-0 at Mission Sports Field #14.
Kevin Kothlow (2), Brian Johnston (a header off a corner) and Stevie Grant handled the table-top 10-0 United offence. Matt Irvine anchored a bold United back line. The Mules are 3-6-1.
