Pinns FC under-15 boys earn weekend sweep

Pinns FC under-15 boys team gets sweep which helps them take first place

The Pinnacles FC under-15 boys soccer team completed a sweep last weekend with a 9-2 win against the Shuswap selects.

After edging Kelowna 2-1 on goals by Rylan van der Meulen, Pinns FC cruised to an easy victory against the Selects as Bjorn Borren and Alex Preston netted a pair of goals. Carson Stocker, Kyle Martins, Grayson Perrier, van der Meulen and Manny Bhaniwal each scored once.

Coach Joe Afonso said his team played solid.

“It’s easy to get into bad habits when you’re scoring a lot of goals,” he said. “Our team stayed and played our system and they looked really comfortable out there.”

With the game well in hand, Afonso gave his bench players more action and said his regulars helped boost their confidence.

The wins helped the Pinnacles overtake Kamloops Blue for first in the division.  This weekend the team travels to Kamloops to face the Blue team at Exhibition Park.

“The boys are going into this game knowing that every game from now on is really important for standings,” said Afonso, whose team has five games left on their schedule before playoffs.

The Pinnacles go into the game with one sub as they have three players who have sustained ankle injuries.

In other Pinnacles action, under-11 boys team erased a 2-0 deficit to defeat Kamloops 10-3 in their lone home game of the season.  Malachi Konynenberg exploded in the second half scoring six goals. Lucas Byrne scored twice and Jaras Grant and Andrew Howells scored one each.  Anders Say and Grant shared the goalie duties. The under-12 boys went to Kamloops with eight players and no designated goalie losing 3-2 to Kelowna.  Derrick Brunton and Louis Perrier shared in the scoring and the goalkeeping duties. Against Kamloops, the team won 4-2. Colby Yurkiw scored twice while Perrier and Linden Sproule each scored once. The under-13s crushed the Selects 9-0, the under-14s lost 4-0 to Vernon in Vernon and the under-17s lost to Kamloops U18 4-1.

On the girls side, the under-13s lost to Kelowna on the road 3-1, the under-14 squad bowed to Kelowna in Kelowna 10-0 and the under-15s also lost to Kelowna 2-0. The under-18 group defeated Kamloops Orange 1-0 at King’s Park and the under-17s lost to Vernon in Vernon 1-0.
