Pitt Marauders fall in varsity playoffs

Team eliminated from AA competition on Saturday with loss to Nanaimo

The Pitt Meadows Marauders were eliminated from the varsity AA football playoffs Saturday after losing 55-7 to John Barsby in Nanaimo.

The Marauders went 4-3 in the regular season, including a 36-0 win over CW Graham and 50-29 victory over Langley to finish the schedule.

Barsby went 6-0 in league play, with a plus-168 point differential.

 

Rams in semis

The Maple Ridge Ramblers advanced to the semi-finals of the Fraser Valley junior boys’ soccer championships with a shutout win over Lord Tweedsmuir last week.

Sam Remfry made a key save to preserve the win.

The Rams play L.A. Matheson on Wednesday.

 

Westview wins

The Maple Ridge secondary Grade 8 boys volleyball team finished second in the league playoffs, falling to Westview secondary.

 

Badminton titles

Jeren Liu and Brian Choi of the Maple Ridge secondary badminton team won multiple titles at the Vancouver Racquets Club junior B tournament on the weekend.

Liu won the under-19 girls’ singles title, while Choi came first in u-19 boys’ singles.

Liu also teamed with Laura Escueta to win the girls’ doubles crown. Choi and Escueta won in mixed doubles. Lui and Jason Choi came second in mixed doubles.

In the u-16 division, Simran Johar was a semi-finalist in girls’ singles, and came second in doubles with Christina Woo.
