The Pitt Meadows Marauders bounced back from their first loss of the season, to Mission last week, and hammered the Rick Hansen Hurricanes 50-0 on Friday on their home field.
“We played well – one of our first that we played a full game, right from the start,” said head coach Matt Todd.
Running back Ryan Beaubien had a career game, as the running back had 250 rushing yards, and put up three touchdowns, including one off a punt that he blocked.
He also had an interception on defence, which he ran back 40 yards, to go with six tackles.
Mark Ashamalla took an interception 80 yards for a major.
Defensive standout Mack Dhami, a middle linebacker, led the team with seven tackles and two sacks. He also opened big holes for Beaubien on the offensive side of the ball playing fullback, and had a rushing touchdown of his own on a 20-yard run.
The win improves them to 4-1 in the Double A Eastern Conference.
Todd said the Hurricanes will be heard from next season.
“They’re really young this year, but they’re a good program.”
Pitt was supposed to have an exhibition game against Sentinel this weekend, but that game is now uncertain, due to field closures.
Junior football
In junior varsity football action, the Pitt JV squad beat Abbotsford 28-14 on Thursday. It was a big win, said Todd, who also coaches the juniors, because Abbotsford is considered one of the top double A junior teams.
Running back Jared Slater had two touchdowns, and RB Brandon Hunt also found the end zone.
“They’re a dual threat in the backfield,” said Todd. “They’re both downhill runners, hard runners, and they have explosiveness as well.”
