The Pitt Meadows Marauders will play for the Fraser Valley North championship tonight.

The senior boys quadruple-A basketball squad beat Heritage Woods 67-64 on Thursday night, following up a 78-33 blowout of the Centennial Centaurs in their first game of the league championship tournament.

Tonight they will meet the Gleneagle Talons. Both teams finished 4-2 in league play, and had similar offensive and defensive stats. Gleneagle is coming off a 73-52 win over top-seeded Terry Fox.

The championship goes tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m. at Terry Fox.

In triple A basketball action, two Maple Ridge teams had big wins on Thursday night. They are not yet in playoff action, but playing for post-season seeding in the Fraser Valley East, which includes Langley, Abbotsford, Mission and Maple Ridge.

The Maple Ridge Ramblers beat a tough Abbotsford team from Robert Bateman 65-56. Bateman had entered the game with a near-perfect 7-1 record in league play.

The Ramblers improve to 4-3 on the season, in fourth place, and are playing lockdown defence. Allowing just 53 points per game, only the league leading Abbotsford Panthers are playing stingier defence than coach Ken Dockendorf’s Ramblers.

Ridge is at last-place Westview tonight (Friday) for a 7:30 p.m. tilt, then will play their ninth and final game at Rick Hansen Secondary on Saturday at 2 p.m.  Hansen has gone 2-6. So, if the Ramblers play to their potential, they have a good shot at finishing with a sound 6-3 record on the year. Even at that, they can climb no higher than fourth in the 10-team Fraser Valley East.

The Samuel Robertson Technical (SRT) Titans won 49-43 over R.E. Mountain on Thursday evening, climbing into fifth place, right behind the Ramblers, at a respectable 4-4 regular season record.

The Titans have a big game against Langley Secondary, who are also 4-4, tonight at SRT, at 7:30 p.m.

The Fraser Valley East playoffs begin Tuesday.
