Playoff hopes down to the wire for ’Dogs

With the Bulldogs clinging to fourth place in their division as they try to edge the Cowichan Valley Captials for a final playoff spot.

The Bulldogs are playing their final game of the season at the AV Multiplex on March 1 against the Powell River Kings.

The Kings narrowly beat the Bulldogs 2-1 in nail-biting double overtime in Powell River on Feb. 25.

Dylan Haugen had the lone goal for the Bulldogs.

Shots on goal favoured the Kings 47-43. Both teams were blanked on their power play chances; the Bulldogs were 0-4, the Kings  0-6.

The Bulldogs are 3-3 against the Kings during the regular season.

The Kings are 35-15-2 for the season, and they  sit in second place in the Island division.

The Caps and the Bulldogs are in a dead heat for the final playoff spot in the Island Division with 48 points apiece.

The Caps have the edge in victories 21-20 over the Bulldogs that will be the first deciding factor in the event of a tie.

The Kings play the Nanaimo Clippers on Friday, Feb. 28 before squaring off with the Bulldogs on Saturday.
