Five students from PMA, Rena Kakuda, Danette Rampton, Houston Rampton, Damon Doiron and Austin Doiron, attended the Western Canadian Martial Arts Championships and returned with medals and trophies in tow.

The fierce competition took place over Saturday in Burnaby at the BCIT Gym.

In the women’s black belt hard style forms, Kakuda won the  gold medal.

Damon competed in the U10 open hard style forms and captured a bronze medal.

In the U7 age group,  and at his first tournament, Austin collected four medals. Three golds in hard style forms, open forms and point sparring, and a silver in traditional forms.

Houston competed in his first tournament as a black belt and won four titles. He won a silver in the U12 point sparring and captured gold in the traditional forms and open forms. To cap off his exceptional tournament, he was named the Grand Champion in open forms.

No stranger to tournaments, Danette collected five titles including the Grand Champion in open forms.

“This was the best tournament competition-wise we have been  to in a while,” said Danette.
