Three young track and field athletes from Kelowna combined for six medals at the B.C. Junior Development Championships, July 21 to 23 at South Surrey Athletic Park.
More 400 athletes aged 9 to 13 were registered to compete in individual events.
Among the medal winners was Lily Stroda who captured two gold and one bronze medal.
She won gold in the long jump with a personal best leap of 3.42 metres, and added a second gold in the high jump where she was the only girl to clear the bar at 1.10m.
Lily, who will soon turn nine, also added two fourth-place efforts (60 and 100m) as well as a sixth place in the 60m hurdles.
Isabella Dreger, 12, who had just overcome pneumonia, claimed one gold and two silver medals.
Isabella, who attends Aberdeen Hall, finished first in the 80m hurdles, breaking the 13-second barrier with a time of 12.96.
In long jump, she finished second with a jump of 4.35m, then added a second silver in the 100m sprint with a time of 13.52 seconds, edging out the bronze medalist by 1/100 of a second.
Max Gainey, 12, who will attend OKM this fall, had his top result in the high jump where he came fourth with a jump of 1.40m.
He placed seventh in the 300m (44.63) and eighth in the 100m (13.99s).
All three athletes train and compete unattached and are coached by Verena Stroda.
