Vernon native Vasek Pospisil stunned world No. 6 seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic in a tiebreak 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) Thursday in third-round play at the $3.5 million Rogers Cup tennis tournament in Montreal.
The 23-year-old Pospisil is now guaranteed at least $68,000 in prize money. He will face the winner of 32-year-old Nikolay Davydenko and 30-year-old Alex Bogomolov Jr., both of Russia, in the quarterfinals.
Pospisil went into the Rogers Cup ranked No. 71 in ATP singles. The 6-foot-4 Davis Cup player has career earnings of $600,000 after pocketing $14,000 for winning the Odlum Brown Vancouver Open last Sunday.
Pospisil now trains full-time in Vancouver and the Bahamas.
