Williams Lake hockey player Tyler Povelofskie was announced as part of the roster selected to compete at the U17 Pacific Region Summer Camp from July 25-29 in Kamloops.
Povelofskie, who recorded eight goals and 12 assists in 34 games with Prince George’s Major Midget Cougars last season, will join 33 other players at the camp.
From the regional camp, players will be scouted with their club teams until November when the Team Pacific Management Commitee announces a 22-player roster to represent Team Pacific at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge from Dec. 28, 2012 to Jan. 4, 2013 in Victoriaville/Drummondville, Que.
The 2013 tournament brings together the top players in the world and is made up of 10 teams; five from Canada — Quebec, Ontario, Pacific (Alberta, B.C., Northwest Territories, Yukon), Atlantic (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) and West (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, and five international teams.
The tournament has included some of Canada’s top hockey stars such as Team Pacific graduates: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Evander Kane, Brent Seabrook, Dion Phaneuf, Mike Green, Jarome Iginla and Joe Sakic.
