Power has impressive performances

Penticton Power girls fast pitch team finishes 15th in provincials, but received strong individual performances

The Penticton Power under-18 B girls fast pitch team finished 15th at provincials. The Power were in Nanaimo last weekend and lost all four of their games.

“Our record wasn’t indicative of how we did,” said Power coach Jeff Korven.

The Power opened with a 12-2 loss against the Langley Rebels, who earned a bronze medal. Their second loss was to the Prince George Thunderbirds 6-3. At one point they led 3-1. Their third loss was against the Kelowna Heat 5-1 and their final loss was against the Ridge Meadows Rage 7-6. The Power led that game 6-4 and only needed a base hit to win.

There were bright spots. Tatiana Brazinha, Madison Foster, Dana Ingram and Rebecca Livesley all had strong performances. Brazinha was flawless on the mound, said Korvin, as she allowed three runs in 16 innings pitched.

“She was hitting her spots,” said Korven. “She was awesome.”

Foster was unbelievable in centre field, said Korven.

“She made catches that were not there,” he said.

At the plate, Foster was also 5-for-12. Ingram was also good at the plate going 4-for-8. Livesley went 3-for-11. “Defensively she was a gem,” said Korven. “She had one error all weekend.”

Korven said it was a pleasure to coach the group all season and the improvements were noticeable. In tournament and exhibition play, the Power won 14 of 26 games.

Graduating from the program are Livesley, Emma Reiter, Nikita Logie and Amy Woodhouse.

While the fast pitch season is over, Korven isn’t finished working with players. He will be running the Ice Girls fast pitch camp for players under 10 to 14. The camp begins Aug.5 to Sept. 9 on Sundays and Wednesdays at Columbia Park. There are 17 players signed up with room for two more. Anyone interested is asked to contact Korven at 250-462-8814.
