Charles Bisset continues his rise through the ranks, as the former Pride Gym fighter earned his 22nd professional Muay Thai victory on Saturday at the Commerce “Fight School” Casino just outside of Los Angeles.
Bisset improved his record to 22-7 after going toe-to-toe with former boxer Dejon Daniels for two and a half rounds of a four round, IKF Muay Thai fight. The 29-year-old Retallack native timed a counter elbow perfectly, splitting open his 23-year-old opponents forhead to earn a TKO midway through the third round.
“I didn’t know a lot about him, saw some tapes on him and thought it should be a good fight,” said Bisset.
Daniels came out swinging from the opening bell, forcing Bisset into a defensive position, but the veteran fighter eluded the Orange County (OC) Muay Thai fighter’s series of haymakers.
“He came out super ultra-aggressive. He was coming at me like a wild man, with a lot of wild haymakers.”
Daniels threw a series of punches and then would tie up Bisset immediately when he started to tire. The tactic proved effective through the first round, as Bisset’s attempts to counter-punch were frustrated.
“To the untrained eye, or to someone that doesn’t know anything about scoring, they’d be impressed because he was throwing like ten punches. But he only really landed one clean punch the whole fight.”
In round two, Bisset’s timing took over and he began to pick Daniels apart with low leg-kicks, and knees to the midsection during the clinch.
“In the third round, he came in with a cross hook, and I timed it, because I knew he was going to come in and tie up right away,” said Bisset. “I caught him with an up-elbow on top of the forehead.”
The elbow ripped open Daniels’ forehead and the OC fighter again tied up Bisset, but this time Bisset knew he had hurt him and could feel the blood flowing over his own shoulder.
“I’m usually always humble, but I couldn’t help but smile and think, ‘I got you’.”
The doctor called the fight, giving Bisset his 22nd pro victory, and although it wasn’t the showcase the Kootenay native wanted, he was satisfied with his response to an unorthodox battle.
Bisset will return to the Kootenays next week for a brief holiday, and is looking to book his 30th fight in Mexico in late August. With a couple more wins under his belt, Trail’s Pride Gym product hopes for a title shot.
Bisset currently resides in Los Angeles where he is an actor.
