PRASC swimmers raced their way to the BC Summer games at the Inaugural Rio Tinto Northwest BC Regional Swim Meet in Kitimat.
Prince Rupert’s team finished second with 759 points to Kitimat’s 936. Terrace finished third with 452, and Smithers fourth with 257.
Individual highlights in alphabetical order included, Warren Barton (14) who had personal best times in all seven events he competed in. He won the 200 metre butterfly, finished second in the 100 butterfly and 100 metre freestyle, and was third in the 50 metre butterfly and 200 metre back stroke. Warren secured a spot on Northwest Region 2016 BC Summer Games Team.
Carter Brown (12) placed third in 50 metre breaststroke. Finn de la Nuez (10) finished third in 50 metre and 100 backstroke. Nash de la Nuez (12) had personal best times in all seven individual events.
Natalie DeMille (11) had personal best times in all seven events that she entered. She finished third in 100 metre backstroke, and had a first Swim BC “AA” time in the 50 metre freestyle (34.45), with new “A” times in the 200 and 400 metre freestyle, and 200 metre back and breaststroke. Isaac Dolan (12) continued his hot streak, capturing the Silver Aggregate (total points scored) for 12 and under boys. He won the 1,500 metre freestyle and 50 metre backstroke. He also placed second in 100 and 200 metre backstroke and 200 metre freestyle events. He rounded out the competition with a third in 100 and 400 metre freestyle events, setting new “AA” times in 200, 400 and 1,500 freestyle.
Malcolm Dolan (10) won the Bronze Aggregate for 10 and under boys. He finished first in the 200 metre freestyle, second in 100 and 200 metre back stroke and 400 metre freestyle. Malcolm collected a third in the 50 and 100 metre freestyle and 200 metre breaststroke. Zachary Dolan (14) continued the Dolan dominance, winning the Gold Aggregate for 14 and under boys’ division. Zachary won the 50 and 100 metre backstroke, the 200 and 400 metre IM, the 50 metre freestyle and 50 metre breaststroke. The only event he didn’t win was the 100 metre breaststroke where he finished second. He set new “AAA” times in the 50 metre freestyle (26.04), 100 metre backstroke (1:06.15), 50 metre backstroke (30.04) and 50 metre breaststroke (33.64). Zach qualified for the Provincial Championships coming up this summer in Victoria. His 50 metre backstroke and 50 metre breaststroke were both Kitimat Pool records.
Landen Franes (12) had a new “A” time in 400 metre freestyle. Kobi Franes (14) won the 1,500 metre freestyle. He came second in 200 metre back stroke, and finished third in the 100 metre backstroke and 200 and 400 metre freestyle events. Jacob Hall (10) won the Gold Aggregate in the 10 and under boys division. He won the 50, 100 and 400 metre freestyle events, as well as the 100 and 200 metre breaststroke, and the 200 metre butterfly and the 400 metre IM. He set a new “AA” time in the 400 metre freestyle.
Sam Kafka (12) came second in 50 metre butterfly. Amy Leighton (15) won the Gold Aggregate in the 15 and over girls’ age group. She won her 200 and 1,500 metre free style events, as well as the 200 and 400 metre IM and the 100 metre breaststroke. She came second in 50 metre butterfly and the 100 metre freestyle. Isaac Mastroianni (12) won the Gold Aggregate for the 12 and under boys division. He won the 100, 200 and 400 metre freestyle, the 100 metre backstroke, the 200 metre breaststroke, and the 400 metre IM. Isaac came third in 200 metre backstroke too, securing a spot on Northwest Region 2016 BC Summer Games Team.
Lucas Mayer (10) came second in 50 metre backstroke and the 200 metre freestyle. And picked up a third in 200 metre backstroke. Kai McDonald (12) came second in 50 and 100 metre breaststroke, and came in third in 200 metre IM. Trey McDonald (9) won the 50 metre breaststroke and came in third in the 100 metre breaststroke. Jarred McMeekin (14) won the Silver Aggregate in the 14 and under boys’ category. He won the 100 and 200 metre breaststroke, and the 50 and 100 metre butterfly. Jarred came in second in the 50 metre freestyle, 50 metre butterfly, and 400 metre IM events. He secured spot on Northwest Region 2016 BC Summer Games Team. Kate Morse (14) finished second in 50 metre freestyle and 200 metre backstroke events. She also finished third in 50 and 100 metre backstroke and 200 metre freestyle.
Liam Pikola (12) won the 50 and 100 metre breaststroke races. He finished second in 200 metre breaststroke event and the 200 metre IM. He also placed third in 50 metre freestyle. Fiona Riesen (8) came in third in 25 metre freestyle. Iona Riesen (9) won the 25 metre freestyle, 100 metre IM, the 50 metre backstroke and 100 metre breaststroke events. Iona also finished second in 100 metre backstroke event and got a third in the 50 metre freestyle. Ethan Toye (14) came in second in the 200 metre butterfly, and third in the 100 metre butterfly and 100 metre freestyle races. Hannah Toye (14) won the Bronze aggregate in the 14 and under girls’ age group. She won the 200 metre backstroke and the 400 metre freestyle events. Hannah finished second in the 50 and 100 metre backstroke, the 100 metre butterfly and 100 metre freestyle. She also had a third in the 50 metre butterfly. This performance secured her a spot on Northwest Region 2016 BC Summer Games Team. Baily Ward (14) had personal best times in all seven of the individual events he competed in.
