Pultz defends golf championship title

Clarkson takes Low Net Club Champion at Peace Portal Ladies Club Championship

The 2011 winner of the Peace Portal Ladies Club championship has repeated her feat, taking home the low gross title Aug. 15 following three days of play.

Karen Pultz entered the third day with a seven shot lead for the title.

She shot an 83 to win by 10 strokes over second-place finisher Mary Feenan and third-place competitor Maxine Hamm.

“I was not at my best, as I have not played enough competitive reps of golf, but I still managed the win,” Pultz said.

Pultz now heads to Charlottetown for the Canadian Women’s Senior Amateur competition.

“I am determined to better my previous best at the nationals – which is a fifth-place finish,” she said.

The low net club champion, Rita Clarkson, came back from a seven-stroke deficit on day three.

She finished tied with Marilyn Thurston for low net.

Both players then headed into a three-hole playoff where Clarkson emerged victorious.

“I knew I had to play well to come from that far behind and that I also had to hit my driver well,” Clarkson said.

“…both worked out and I am thrilled to have won.”

Second place went to Thurston and third went to Ginny Harrison.
