Qualicum Beach trio tops triples tournament

Local team claims title in second indoor mixed triples tourney at Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club

A pristine blanket of snow covering the lawn at Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club did little to interrupt play last weekend, as the club hosted the second mixed triples tournament of its winter season on the indoor green.

The Qualicum Beach trio of Bob and Joyce Findlay and Joe Randazzo claimed the top spot in the two-day tourney, which drew 36 bowlers from Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Nanaimo. During the winter season, all bowlers are members of the Qualicum Beach club, the only indoor facility on Vancouver Island.

Several of the teams were made up of players from a mix of the communities, including the runner-up team of Dean Thompson, Ken Welwood and Ruby Bishop, and the third-place squad of David Childs, Evelyn Dimond and Joe Lansdowne.

Fourth place went to the Qualicum Beach threesome of John Eyre, Brenda Cohen and Charles McIntyre. Cash prizes were awarded to each of the top four finishers by tournament organizer James MacDonald, who thanked all kitchen and greens volunteers, players and spectators.
