Four players from Salmon Arm, Kyle Walter, TJ Christianson, Peter Purves and Kevin Body, dominated the scoreboard in the finals of the Boston Pizza Hockey League, an open men’s league that plays in Vernon. All four play for the Godard Construction Predators, and scored in their team’s 6-2 win over the Green Pub Moose on Wednesday, March 30.
Body, Purves and Christianson were all within the Predators’ top five scorers for the season.
Walter scored two goals and was also the penalty minute leader in the final game of the series against the Green Pub Moose.
The earlier two games of the series against the Green Pub Moose saw the predators win 2-1 in a shootout, and then lose 2-1, also in a shootout.
The Predators’ road to the finals was difficult. They went 13-17 in the regular season, making them seventh seed for the playoffs. Allen Purves, a spokesperson for the Predators, said the team struggled early – due to being short on players – but got back to a full roster in time for the playoffs.
Once in the playoffs, the team fared far better, defeating the Cidel Moving Oilers in the first round and then the Spartan Auto Bulls before the final.
Purves said the quartet have been travelling to play in the Vernon league for the last three years.
