The four teams competing at the City of Quesnel Social Club Slo-Pitch Tournament at West Fraser Timber Park last weekend (Sept. 8-9) were less concerned with finishing first place and more worried about ensuring they didn’t finish last.
A hanging rubber chicken mounted to a wooden board with engraved names of all the losing teams of past years was presented to the School District Maintenance team, which lost the bronze medal game to the Arena team.
As dishonorable as the result was for them, everyone had a blast at the two-day event, which was a chance for players to enjoy a nice weekend with colleagues and family.

“The tournament was smooth this year,” says Angele Nutley, who was a part of the winning RCMP/ Recreation Centre team. “Everyone was relaxed. Usually when we go to other tournaments there can be a lot of stress.
“Everybody is laughing here and there’s no hard feelings.”
Her squad beat out the Public Works team in the gold medal game, winning $200, which was donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters Quesnel.
Organizer Christie Poitras says they also invited the school board and the fire department to play but they were unable to field squads.
