Most of the Chevy Crew wasn’t complaining, as the goal scoring flurry allowed them to finally get the shootout monkey off their back as they defeated BCS 7-6 in FHL play. The victory was also their first against the new league leaders, as they had gone 0-3-1 in their previous four matchups. Scoring the shootout winner for his adopted team was Eric “Frantic” Stanick, who used his six-foot stick for an amazing Tanev-like deke.
Also having stellar mornings were Justin “Time” Rasmussen, who tallied the hat trick, and “Stand” Pat Beaudry, who scored a pair and added an assist for his biggest offensive output since second-year Bantams.
Earning the loser point and leading his team into sole possession of first place was BCS Captain Cam “Shaft” Graham, who scored one and drew apples on both of Don “Silky” Sankey’s mesh ripplers.
Notching his first multi-goal game was FHL rookie Kyle “Pepé” Leblanc, who also stuffed in a pair, as Jim “Soupy” Sales extended his point streak to five games with a goal and an assist.
The only reason the Serenity-versus-Bear contest was close was the fact that Bear’s Jason “Firecracker” Foreman stymied five Serenity second-half breakaways in the 6-5 Builder win.
The magnificent seven skaters who showed up for Serenity didn’t get much time on the bench but sure showed up on the scoresheet, as if they didn’t score a goal or earn an assist, they served time in the sin-bin.
Notching another hat trick for the Builders was Darby “Dangler” Madill, who infuriated the Bear defence with his slick moves. Also having multi-point games was Levon “Young Gun” Johnson, who notched the winner, and Ty “One on” Mueller, who scored his seventh of the year as he was finally credited with an assist.
Deftly deflecting a Cliff “Hanger” Hunik blast from the point was “RCA” Victor Hegan, whose knees continue to take a licking but keep on ticking.
Despite the loss, Bear had a few things go their way, as “Mighty” Quinn Miller had an outstanding game, with a goal and a pair of helpers, as “Oh” Henry Boal and Chris “Crown” Royle both converted “Ian “Heartbreaker” Hannah saucers into the net. Scoring a goal and an assist from his rearguard position was Richard “The Man with the Golden Gloves” Lindstrom.
With Bear now evicted from the penthouse suite for the first time in eight weeks, the Christmas break might be just what our furry friends need to get back to their former form.
