The Quesnel Kangaroos are on the hunt for a new coach.
The Central Interior Hockey League AA Senior ice-hockey team is aiming to have someone in the role, formerly occupied by Terry Klapstein, as soon as possible.
Tryouts begin Sept. 4, practice will begin on Sept. 18 and the first game of the season will be on Oct. 6 in Williams Lake, so the clock is ticking.
Company secretary Riley Koidl says the 71-year-old organization would like to find a coach with a strong understanding of the game, who is in possession of excellent communication and leadership skills and brings a degree of dedication to the position that extends beyond their time spent behind the bench.

“This year we have some younger hometown players joining us, so there’s a little bit more energy and drive,” she says.
“[The new coach] will get to be part of the team with a great group for guys who fit together like a family.”
The incumbent will run practices twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will coach the team during eight home games, which will be played for the second season in the West Fraser Centre, as well as eight away games, two of which will be overnighters.
The position is a paid one and road trip expenses will be covered.
Winning is in the DNA for this club, and the next coach might just be able to tap into those ways.
They have one Savage Cup, three Edmonton Journal Cups and 11 Coy Cups to their name. The 16th cup victory has been elusive, but with the right direction it might just become reality.
