In a repeat of last year’s season opener, Bear absolutely mauled BCS by a 6-0 score with Kyle “Cujo” Anderson earning his first shut-out since November 16, 2016.
Bear must have been stinging from their surprise early exit from last year’s playoffs, as Jason “Firecracker” Forman was up to his old hat tricks as he scored a trio and added a pair of assists.
Scoring an early-season candidate for goal of the year was Kris “Haymaker” Hayman, who went end-to-end before roofing it with authority. Also having a huge morning was Wade Price “Is Right” who converted a pair of Firecracker’s saucers to match his duo of assists.
Meanwhile, in the cosy confines of Rink 2, Fraser River began its Lumber Cup Title defence with a bang as it dominated Serenity in a 7-3 laugher.
Playing like a madman across the frozen water in his Forestry Hockey League debut was “He shall be” Levon Johnson, who scored a pair and added a trio of assists as he double shifted and still didn’t break into a sweat.
Enjoying the fruits of his draft prowess was Ian “Heartbreaker” Hannah, who also found the twine twice while earning a pair of assists. Also having big games were Eric “Frantic” Stanick and Dave “Pinball” Penner, who were well deserved recipients of a goal and an assist apiece.
Serenity actually found a little pushback early as Justin “Time” Rasmussen and Chris “Crown” Royle scored impressive first half markers.
Sadly, that was almost all she wrote for offence, as besides Shawn “Pumper” Nicholls’ first FHL marker, which exploded off his stick like a wounded propane tank, Serenity wilted down the stretch.
