Racing tight and fast at Saratoga Speedway

Car Tossing Competition returns this Saturday at Black Creek oval

Some of the fastest racing machines on the Island were featured Saturday night at Saratoga Speedway with the I.M.C.A Modifieds, Bomber cars, Dwarf cars and Hornet cars filling the pits with close to 60 cars.

With all the great weather Vancouver Island has had, track conditions were top notch for all the classes. In the Modifieds, #91 Chris Beaulieu set a track record in qualifying of  15.064 seconds, beating the old record of 15.275 set in 2011.

Heat races saw #11 Justin Beaulieu take home the Bomber honours; #69 Dwight Bakken, #59 Dana Ackerman, #95 Carter Hintz and #98 Nigel Neufeld win the Hornet heats; #01 Jeff May take the Modified win; and #2 Tovay Helgeisen prevail in the Dwarf cars.

In the 20-lap Bomber main, #99 Rob Gaudreault jumped into an early lead and  pulled away from the pack to take home his first main event win of the year.

In the 25-lap, 21-car Hornet B main, #41 Brian Lippy led the first 21 laps until points leader #53 Rowland Westra made his move and held on to win his fourth main event of the year.

Ten cars contested the 20-lap A main which saw a tight battle for first through fourth. #99 Glenn White grabbed the lead on lap three and held off #05 Luke Dixon (second) and #98 Nigel Neufeld (third) for his first main event win of the year.

An extremely fast 20-lap Dwarf car main event saw Helgeisen jump into the early lead and stretch it out half a lap until she spun herself out on lap 12. That allowed #24 Kinser Kennedy to take the lead and go on to win his first main event at Saratoga this year.

The feature main event saw the I.M.C.A Modifieds in a 30-lap battle. May grabbed the early lead and held it for half the race, but Beaulieu made his way around May on the outside and pulled away to win yet another main event.

EXTRA LAPS This weekend the crowd-pleasing Car Tossing Competition returns to Saratoga as two fully loaded logging trucks will each pick up a car and throw it as far as possible … the drivers will be out to top last year’s best throw of 56 feet … the Hornets, Roadrunners and Crash to Pass cars will also be on the card …
