The U-14 Parksville Rage girls fastball team took to the ball fields down at the Parksville Community Park this weekend for their Icebreaker tournament.

With five teams taking part in the Icebreaker over this past weekend, the Rage team got in four games and a good amount of experience before their season opener against Ladysmith on Monday (score not available at press time).

“It was a fun tournament,” coach Ian Kellow said. “It was more just for fun for everyone there, not really about keeping score and who finishes where.”

“It’s a great way to get in some exhibition games and get everyone some good playing time before the games that count towards our regular season take place.”

The Rage will see about nine regular season games among a total of six tournaments through the season, seven if they make it all the way to the provincials.

“We’re going to play a lot of ball,” Kellow said. “The nice thing about it is it gives us a chance to see where we stack up against some of the teams that aren’t in our district, like the teams from Victoria and over on the Mainland.”

“We’ve got lots of tournaments that we’ll play in but it’s the last tournament of the year that we want to find ourselves in.”
