The Langley Christian Lightning could not sustain an early 10-2 lead, falling 81-66 to the Delview Raiders in the quarter-final round of the B.C. 3A senior boys provincial basketball championships.
The teams were playing on Thursday night at the Langley Events Centre on the second day of the tournament.
The Lightning, the No. 14 seed, had upset the No. 3 Golden Eagles on the opening day, while the No. 11 Raiders also pulled off the upset against No. 6 Kwalikum.
And this was the third Langley Christian and Delview played in the past few weeks, as they met twice at the Fraser Valley championships, with each winning once.
In the most recent game, the Raiders took control after the Lightning’s hot start to lead 18-15 after one quarter and 41-28 at the half.
Brennan Gardner had his second straight 30-plus game, scoring a game-high 33 points while also grabbing six rebounds.
Tobias Meier chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.
A big difference between Langley Christian’s performance against Golden compared to against Delview as their shooting.
The Lightning shot 59 per cent from beyond the arc in the first game and 48.5 per cent from the field. But against the Raiders, they shot 24 per cent from the three-point line and 25 per cent from the field.
Next up for Langley Christian is a game against the No. 7 Clarence Fulton Maroons of Vernon. The Lightning will finish between fifth and eighth at the tournament.
