Raiders rock Rams in regular season finale

Game had no bearing on playoff positioning for Langley or VI

The VI Raiders took advantage of five interceptions, hammering the Langley Rams 48-16.

The game — which had no bearing on the standings with the Raiders locked into third and the Rams fourth — was on Saturday at Nanaimo’s Caledonia Park, the final day of the BC Junior Football Conference regular season.

The Rams fell behind 17-0 after one quarter and 31-6 at the half.

Langley was able to move the ball as they had 325 yards of net offence, but they were plagued by six turnovers: five interceptions and one turnover on downs.

Stephen Legare threw for 268 yards and two scores — one apiece to Nick Agnoletto and Alex France — but was also picked off five times by the Raiders.

Agnoletto was the leading receiver with seven catches and 126 yards.

For the Raiders, Jake Laberge completed just a dozen passes for 203 yards, but four of those were touchdown passes.

Kieran Benedito led the Rams with six solo tackles and two assists while Isaiah Stewart (four tackles), Denis Olivera (three tackles), Adam Marchetti (two solo, two assists), Baltej Dhanoya (two solo, one assist) and Nathan Murray (two solo) also had multi-tackle games.

Dylan Roach had the only Rams quarterback sack.

Zach Lubin forced the lone Langley turnover, returning an interception 28 yards in the second half.

The Rams finished the regular season at 4-6 and will face the first-place Westshore Rebels (9-1) on Saturday at Westhills Stadium in Langford. Game time is 7 p.m.
