The Maple Ridge Ramblers senior boys’ team has had a fast start to the new high school basketball season.
Head coach Ken Dockendorf, closing in on his 50th year of coaching, has had his team in tournament action leading up to action in the Fraser Valley East triple-A league.
On Friday and Saturday, Ridge won the Courtenay Tournament. The Ramblers defeated the host auad-A school, the G.P. Vanier Towhees 64-50. Leading the team with 29 points was Burke Brussow. Tristan Coumont had 15 and 10 rebounds, and George Panagiotopavlos and Will Chartrand scored 10 points each.
On Saturday, Ridge defeated Kwalicum 54-48. Dockendorf said the Ramblers were led by Panagiotopavlos with 10 rebounds and Brandon McRoberts with nine rebounds and six recoveries.
In the championship game Ridge defeated Victoria Secondary 74-36. Scoring came from Brussow with 22, Coumont with 21 and Chartrand 18.
On Dec. 1-3, the Ramblers placed third in the Enver Creek Tournament, beating Sullivan Heights 81-59 and Clayton Heights 81-62, but losing to Panorama Ridge 90-58.
On Dec. 8, Ridge defeated a team ranked an honourable mention in the Triple A rankings in North Delta 82-53, with Coumont leading the way with 51 points.
