Ramblers win at Island tournament

The Maple Ridge Ramblers senior boys basketball team played in the G.P. Vanier tournament in Courtenay over the weekend.

The Maple Ridge Ramblers senior boys basketball team played in the G.P. Vanier tournament in Courtenay over the weekend.

The first game had Ridge defeating Reynolds of Victoria 68-52. Isaac Halas was player of the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Ethan Coumont contributed 17 points.

The semi-finals had the Ramblers against the tallest team they had faced all year in the host Vanier team,  ranked second on Vancouver Island in the 4A tier.  The hosts won 64-46. Ethan Coumont scored 18, and Josh Solk, was the player of the game with 10 big points late in the game.

The Ramblers then defeated Eric Hamber of Vancouver 60-51.

The combo of Coumont and Halas had 17 and 16 points each and supported by Grade 10 Tristan Coumont with 13.  All three players also had outstanding nights on the boards.

Coach Ken Dockendorf said the team is improving with the development of bench players Cole Deakin, Colorado Zelinski and Burke Brussow – each in Grade 9.
