The Ravensong Water Dancers have completed their first meet this past weekend in figures training, showing well with two first time dancers on the team taking part in technical skills.
The swimmers completed four regular figures moves to go along with four technical skills figures. The regular figures are done during the full meets at the regionals and provincials, where the team scores are added to their routine score, which will determine their placement on the podium.
The technical figures are held to specific counts of a metronome setting of 40, which comes in to be one beat every 1.5 seconds, with the hardest figure being counts of 36 or 54 seconds long. The third part of the figures training was the flexibility. Again, being held in time with the metronome setting, the dancers had to hold split positions three different ways (straddle, left leg forward and right leg forward).
Next up for the water dancers is their annual Christmas Water Show, Sunday, December 14 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach. The event will see, solo, duet and team routines being showcased. Though they aren’t the full routines, which will be ready by the spring, the dancers are looking forward to showing what they’ve got so far.
