Ready, set, ski!

The Cariboo Ski Touring Club will be hosting its annual Open House Jan. 12 at Hallis Lake Lodge

The Cariboo Ski Touring Club (CSTC) is getting set to host its annual open house.

The event will be held Sunday, Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hallis Lake Lodge and promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family.

The CSTC will be offering all attendees of the open house free ski passes, lessons, tours and rentals for the duration of the event.

There will also be a tasty pancake breakfast served at the lodge to insure bellies are warm and full before heading out for a day on the snow at a cost of $4 per adult, $2 per child or $10 for a family.

The event is a great opportunity for anyone interested in trying out cross-country skiing or snowshoeing for the first time to be able to test out the sports without having to financially commit to them right away.

The CSTC boasts a trail system of approximately 75 kilometres at Hallis Lake, including a four-kilometre lighted trail for night skiing, as well as dedicated snowshoeing trails and canine-friendly trails.

Members also have access to four backcountry cabins, which can be booked for daily or overnight use.

The membership fees for the 2019-20 season are $30 for skiers over four years old and $10 for snowshoers.

Membership fees support all facets of the major ski project undertaken by Hallis Lake, which includes a day lodge, parking area, 38 kilometres of groomed trails, an adventure park and a nature trail.

Fees also support the cost of the machinery used to create and maintain the trails, as well as the backcountry cabins and various CSTC programs.

The CSTC is also offering a promotion to new club members, offering a free cross country ski lesson and rentals to any new member who signs up before midnight on Jan. 31.

The CSTC currently has around 450 members who enjoy making use of the facilities at Hallis Lake and hopes to see more members join after the Open House event in January.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the CSTC or interested in learning more about the drop-in or season’s pass facility use fees can visit caribooski.ca for more information.
