The KIJHL playoffs are underway and the Castlegar Rebels are facing off against the Spokane Braves. So far two games have been played at the Castlegar Complex, with each team earning a win.
Game one went to the Rebels 4-3. Rebels’ Ryan Rosich opened the scoring in the first within two minutes but after that things went downhill for the Castlegar team.
Three unanswered goals made it past Castlegar’s goaltending and put the away team ahead 3-1 within the closing minutes of the second period.
It was with five minutes left in the second that Rebels’ Jeremy McNeil scored the goal that started the winning run. Aaron Petten went on to score two more goals in the final period, closing it out 4-3.
Game two saw the Braves tie up the series with a win over Castlegar.
A consistent two goals in each period and solid goaltending proved to be enough for Spokane. Castlegar’s Yannis Soukas and Jeremy McNeil hammered the puck in once each near the end and Cal Owens netted another near the beginning of period two. However, Owens goal would be the last for the Rebels and the game finished 6-3.
These two teams will meet again Monday and Tuesday in Spokane until coming back to Castlegar on Thursday, February 26.
