Rebels coach moves to coach Drayton Valley Thunder

Castlegar Rebels coach and GM Jesse Dorrans has accepted a position with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

CASTLEGAR Castlegar Rebels coach and GM Jesse Dorrans has accepted the position of coach and GM with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Dorrans leaves the Rebels after 3 years at the helm. During his time as head coach, he compiled a regular season record of 84-66-6.

Rebels president, Mike Johnstone, says, “This is a very exciting day for our hockey club. The KIJHL is a developmental league, and success is judged not only by our performance on the ice, but also by the number of players we move to the next level. I believe the same can be said for coaches; I think it’s a positive for our organization that teams from higher levels are looking to recruit members of our staff. We’re extremely happy for Jesse, and wish him nothing but the best. I know he’ll do well.”

Dorrans will begin his duties with the Thunder immediately. As for the Rebels, Johnstone says, “A job posting will be placed shortly. It’s an important time of the year for our hockey club and we hope to have our new coach and GM in place in time to give him every opportunity to be successful this upcoming season.”

The Castlegar Rebels AGM will be held Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. at the Castlegar Complex.  A Castlegar Hockey Society Membership for $10 allows you to vote at the meeting; however, anyone is welcome to attend.

Johnstone added, “I would encourage everyone to attend the AGM; we’re always looking for additional volunteers. There’s an opportunity for you to help your local hockey team, regardless of how much time you can commit.”
