Rebels keep Rockets in check

The Castlegar Rebels defeated the Golden Rockets 5-3 on Feb. 2.

The combination of a slow start and an inability to put enough pucks in the net cost the Golden Rockets in a Sat. night home game against the Castlegar Rebels.

The Rockets scored the first goal of the game only 55 seconds into the first period when Keith Wake notched his 19th goal of the season.

However the Rebels would take advantage of their chances in the first period and  take a 3-1 lead after a trio of unanswered goals on only 5 shots.

The Rebels added to their lead in the second when Travis Wellman scored a power play goal a little over halfway into the period.

The Rockets cut into the lead with a goal from Brad Orr and made it a one goal affair when James Price scored in the third period.

With time winding downing the game the Rockets pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie things up but the Rebels put one last goal in the empty net to make the final score 5-3.

Rockets head coach Ty Davidson said the team needs to figure out a way to have better starts to their games going forward.

“When you are playing a good team and are down 3-1 after the first that is hard to come back from. That is a team that is used to winning games and they know how to finish out a game,” he said. “We killed ourselves in the first period tonight.”
