Rec league searching for players

Greater Vernon Recreation Services is inviting players and teams fill the Boston Pizza Hockey League.

Greater Vernon Recreation Services is inviting individual players or teams, 19 years or over, along with scorekeepers and officials to fill the Boston Pizza Hockey League, which starts play Tuesday, Sept. 16.

The non-contact league will feature 30 regular-season games plus a double-elimination playoff.

League coordinator Mike Knights said the BPHL is suitable for players of all calibres.

“We have some ex-Junior A players – some of whom have played for our very own Vernon Vipers – the odd ex-NHLer, and we also have career recreational players,” said Knights.

League fees for teams that register prior to Sept. 1 are $7,500, including taxes. After Sept. 1, fees go up to $8,000. The BPHL will create teams for individual players, who can sign up for $500.

“It is a great mix of competitive hockey in a competitive framework that allows for reasonable contact between experienced players. We don’t tolerate violent play and behavior but the games are still fun and competitive,” said Rob Bauml, player, league veteran, and former league president.

Interested teams, players, referees or scorekeepers are urged to email Knights at mknights@vernon.ca or call 250-550-3669.
