REC REPORT: Imagine it’s summer at Grand Forks Aquatic Centre

Grand Forks Recreation invites youth to swim at the Grand Forks Aquatic Centre on Nov. 15.

Engaging teenagers to be active or to become involved in the community is an ongoing struggle for parents, teachers and caregivers. How often do we hear these statements from youth: “There is nothing to do, or we are bored?”

There are lots of options for youth in our community. Get your friends together and go to the movies, come for a swim or skate at the aquatic centre or arena – Phoenix Ski Hill is just minutes away. Our backyard is an outdoor playground for all ages.

Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC) is inviting all youth, ages 13 to 18 to join our aquatic staff on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. for an evening of fun at the pool. The music will be turned up and the activity level high during this two hour event.

There will be pizza donated by Omega Restaurant and pop donated by Buy Low Foods. Enter your name to win some great draw prizes.

Let’s take the time to honor those who have fought to make our country a great place to live.  Be sure to stop for a moment on Sunday, Nov. 11 and say a quick thank you.

Copper Fields have once again sponsored a free Remembrance Day Family Skate on Nov. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. The Grand Forks Border Bruins will be on site selling raffle tickets and the boys will be on the ice skating with the public. Please bring a non-perishable donation for the local food bank.

A huge thank you goes out to Copper Fields for the support of our local community.

Time has now fallen back and the days are shorter. Brighten up your day by spending some time at the Grand Forks Aquatic Centre.

The lights are bright and the water is warm, giving you a slight glimmer of summer (well you can imagine it to be summer).

The pool is open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. We will be closed for Remembrance Day but will be open on Monday, Nov. 12 from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again in the afternoon from 5 until 8 p.m. The regular fitness schedule is in place with the Advanced Aquafit class from 9 to 10 a.m. and Moderate Aquafit from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Early-morning Circuit weight training will be held from 6 to 7 a.m.

Pool users can take advantage of the membership year-end sale that goes until Dec. 31. Save 10 per cent off the 2013 prices when you purchase 25 or more. There are no expiry dates on the passes so you just use them up as you enjoy the facility.
