The Nanaimo Redmen will try to start a playoff run by slaying the Giants.
The city’s Vancouver Mainland Football League midget team takes on the Chilliwack Giants on Saturday (Nov. 15) in the Fraser Valley.
The Redmen (5-5) have been much improved in the second half of the season and are playing their best football at the right time.
“We’re finally starting to reach our potential, I think,” said Sean Roden, the team’s coach. “Our execution’s gotten much, much better, we’re pretty healthy, we’re doing the things that we expected from this group early on and we didn’t always get.”
It’s a hard-working team, the coach said, one that has battled to earn its playoff position. The last two weeks the Redmen won games to pass other teams in the standings.
The offence is executing both the run and the pass, and the hard-hitting defence has big-play potential.
“We’re about as confident as a team could be going on the road for the playoffs,” said Roden.
