Region’s rugby teams off to a good start

Startup Sevens rugby tournament in Langford saw some great games

Defending champion Glenlyon Norfolk School brought their A game to Westhills Stadium for the annual Startup Sevens rugby tournament Tuesday in Langford.

The Gryphons captured the cup by beating fellow private school Shawnigan Lake School in the championship match.

Esquimalt, second-place finishers in the A pool behind GNS, captured the Plate  with a win over Edward Milne of Sooke, while the Belmont Bulldogs earned the Bowl and fifth place with a win over Spectrum.

Stelly’s rounded out the final winners by taking the Shield with a win over Vic High.

In junior boys play, a combined SD62 team topped the four-team round robin. The day’s events were sponsored by Colwood Rotary.
