The Comox Valley Volleyball Camp is offering another summer of fun for young players.

The longest running of its kind in the North Island, the camp runs at Isfeld Secondary from July 9-12.

“My passion is coaching young athletes and seeing them improve their skills in a dynamic and fun environment,” camp co-ordinator Brian Stevens said.

There are two sessions available to accommodate a range of ages and skill levels. A youth session for boys and girls aged 11-13 will run from 1-4:30 p.m., and an elite session (14-17 years) will run from 5-8:30 p.m.

The camp regularly has experienced athletes, and those who are learning the sport. Many multi-sport athletes also attend.

“We always ensure all athletes are grouped in appropriate skill levels to promote success and enjoyment,” Stevens said.

Both sessions will focus on technical skill development, game play knowledge, tons of touches with the ball, and fun. The elite session also focuses on position specific play, core and strength training, and game strategy components.

In addition to the indoor game, athletes will play outdoor volleyball on grass. Playing indoor and outdoor helps develop skills, knowledge and confidence.

Stevens has five years each of university playing and coaching experience. There will be a strong collection of coaches — current and former university athletes — at the camp.

“Each coach loves working with young athletes,” Stevens said. “They all enjoy coaching, and sharing their talents and knowledge with the campers.”

The camp is $150, which includes a T-shirt. Besides volleyball, there will be games, contests and prizes. There are 40 spots available in each session.

Register your son or daughter by contacting Stevens at bdstevens@hotmail.com or (250) 339-0434. A registration form will be e-mailed.
