A small but mighty crew of Aquaducks traveled to Penticton over the weekend for the first heats and finals meet of the year.

Fifteen swimmers raced towards a top 10 prelimary time, allowing them to advance to finals later in the day. A true test of mental and physical toughness, this meet was the longest in duration and featured the most races. Most swimmers did seven events per day.

Through it all, Revelstoke swimmers battled through fatigue and came out with many best times and podium finishes.

Hunter Stewardson broke the team record for girls Division 4 100 metre breaststroke with a time of 1:23.08.

Overall, the women’s team placed third with just 12 swimmers. The men’s team held their own with only three swimmers. They demonstrated great strength with every single athlete pulling their weight.

Aggregate medals were as follows:

— Kenadie Stefura, 1st, Division 1

— Autumn Griffith-Doyle 1st, Division 2

— Brynn Hoshizaki, tied 2nd, Division 5

— James LeBuke, 1st, Division 5

— Anna Pfeiffer, 3rd, Division 7

This upcoming weekend, July 16–17, the Aquaducks will host the Okanagan swimmers at the Revelstoke Aquatic Centre. It is promising to be a battle as they go into the meet as last year’s champions and hope to claim the trophy once again.

There will be hundreds of athletes in attendance from eight clubs from around the region, with 66 of Revelstoke’s own competing, including many young ones in their first races ever. The meet starts at 8 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, so come on out to the Aquatic Centre to support the Ducks in what is sure to be a fantastic weekend of racing.
