The 100 Mile House Wranglers scored five power play goals on their way to a 9-4 rout of the Revelstoke Grizzlies in game two of their playoff series on Thursday.
“For me I thought we played well,” said Grizzlies’ coach Ryan Parent. “As a coach I’ll take the hit there. I can’t fault our guys for bad play. Definitely we’re going to have find a way to stay out of the penalty box.”
The teams traded goals in the first, with Michael Lynch scoring for the Wranglers and Aaron Aragon netting a power play goal for Revelstoke.
The teams scored 54 seconds apart in the third minute of the second, with Tyler Povelofskie putting 100 Mile up a goal and Ryan Pereverzoff evening things up a minute later.
After that, the Grizzlies ran into penalty trouble, giving up six more goals, including four while shorthanded, to fall behind 8–2 before the second was over.
Ryan Hozjan and Jeff Bochon scored in the third for Revelstoke, put Alex Hanson added one more for 100 Mile to make it a 9-4 final.
Overall, 100 Mile was 5 for 11 on the power play, while Revelstoke went for 1 for 3. Parent said he felt the team’s were equal at even strength, but he was critical of the officiating. “There’s committed infractions on both sides and you’re not getting a call, you’re beginning to wonder what’s going on here,” he said. “To survive 8 or 9 penalty kills in a row, it’s tough.”
The win gives 100 Mile a 2-0 series lead as the series shifts back to Revelstoke for games three and four this Saturday and Sunday.
“I think we played two very good hockey games and I think this is going to be a very long hockey series,” said Parent.
