Superb spring snow conditions and good weather made for an excellent weekend of racing as the Revelstoke Ski Club hosted the Teck Okanagan Zone Finals on March 26–27.

More than 125 U12, U14 and U16 athletes from the Okanagan competed in the two-day event held on the Hollywood run at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. The snow on the racecourse was made firm and perfect by the skilled RMR grooming crew, and the event was a smooth success thanks to RMR operations, patrol and lift staff.

Athletes were entertained all day on a sunny Saturday by the G.N.A.R. Day crowd, who added a fun (and sometimes shocking to some) element to the day.

Saturday’s awards were held at RMR’s base plaza, which was busy with a festive weekend crowd. Top 10 finishes in giant slalom were awarded to the following Revelstoke skiers:

U16 – Bergen Schmidt, 1st

U14 – Lowell Schmidt, 5th

U14 – Alex Jay, 6th

U14 – John Sidjak, 9th

U12 – Sydney Musseau, 8th

U12 – Anouk Lafon, 10th

U12 – Max Brodkorb, 2nd

U12 – Reed Kelly, 4th

U12 – Teigan Lenzi, 5th

U12 – Parker Aucoin, 10th

Sunday’s snow fall created challenging conditions but the race crews and coaches worked hard to keep the slalom races rolling. All of the athletes seemed to be grinning from ear to ear afterwards. Several Revelstoke racers finished in the top 10 including:

U16 – Colm Molder, 6th

U16 – Jenna Knight, 6th

U14 – John Sidjak, 7th

U14 – Lowell Schmidt, 9th

U12 – Reed Kelly, 2nd

U12 – Teigan Lenzi, 3rd

U12 – Nora Sidjak, 2nd

U12 – Sydney Musseau, 6th

U12 – Anouk Lafon, 10th

Additionally, Bergen Schmidt (U16) and Teigan Lenzi (U12) each won third place overall in the Okanagan Zone for their respective age categories.

Hosting a race of this magnitude would not be possible without the support of Revelstoke Mountain Resort and the hard work and support of our volunteers and club sponsors. We would also like to thank Coopers Foods, The Modern Bakeshop, Free Spirit Sports, Skookum Cycle and Ski, Universal Footwear, Mica Heli Skiing, Eagle Pass Heli, Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing, Revy Outdoors, The Regent Hotel, Avalanche Canada and the City of Revelstoke for their very generous donations.
