The Fraser Valley Track and Field championships held lots of highlights for the Maple Ridge secondary team.
Abisayo Ajibike won the senior girls aggregate award as the top female athlete by winning the 100m, 200m, and finishing second in the long jump in the meet at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam last week.
Jorrin Lenton also won a pair of medals, the award for most inspirational athlete, and a huge round of applause from the crowd as he finished the race for his second win, in obvious agony.
Lenton had won the 400m on Monday, was winning the 300m hurdles on Thursday and nearing the final bend when his shoulder dislocated. He continued to run despite his pain and he won the race using only one arm for propulsion. Two doctors helped him at the finish line, popped his arm back into its socket.
The MRSS girls’ 4x400m relay team set a new record, winning the event in 4:00.31, which was 11.11 seconds faster than the second place team.
