Prior to meeting the Surrey Knights on Friday night, the Ridge Meadows Flames had just five points to show for their previous eight games in January.
So a meeting with the winless Surrey Knights was a chance to vent some frustration.
The Flames did just that against Surrey – a team that is still winless in 41 outings in the Pacific Junior Hockey League, as they blasted the Knights 13-0.
It was 6-0 after the first period. The Flames had 34 shots in the third period alone, and outshot the Knights 76-13.
Alexander Furlan had two goals and two assists to lead the scoring, but the Flames got goals from nine different players.
Of note, newly acquired defenceman Frank Zhong had three points on a goal and two assists, giving him five points in four games with his new team. Captain Andrew Strelezki had three points, and now has a team-leading 40 in 37 games on 20 goals and 20 assists.
Jack Stradiotti was in net for the shutout, which was his fourth this year with the Flames.
The Flames lost 4-0 to the first-place Aldergrove Kodiaks on Wednesday.
The Flames power play went one-for-eight and gave up two shorthanded goals.
