Riding Club hands out year end awards

The Barriere & District Riding Club wrapped up a busy 2012 season with their Year End Banquet and Awards on Oct. 27

The Barriere & District Riding Club wrapped up a busy and exciting 2012 season with their Year End Banquet and Awards on Oct. 27, at the Fall Fair Hall.

Approximately 100 members and their families turned out for this event. A delicious potluck dinner was enjoyed before the Awards were handed out.

Trophy Buckles and bronc-style halters (for the novice gymkhana classes) were awarded to the High Point winners; embroidered saddle blankets to the runners-up, halters for third, embroidered saddle covers for fourth, and a set of polo wraps for fifth in all age divisions for the horse shows and the gymkhanas.

Recognized for their efforts were the Volunteers of the Year – (competing member) Wendy Sabyan, (director) Joanne Pettersen, (recreational member) Gail Yon. Riley Leduc, Helen and Ron Woods, Peter and Marylin Maidment, Tami and Jim Myram, Pat Dickie, Al Threatful, and Cindy Somogyi, Cat Elliot and Pam Jim were all recognized for the extra effort they had put into the shows and gymkhanas throughout the year.

Most Improved Rider Awards:

Doris Luhowy (Recreational Rider), Chantal Holt and Cherie Witts (horse shows), Wendy Sabyan and Sarah Pringle (gymkhanas)

Sportsmanship Awards:

Green – this is the first step for horses or riders new to competing in horse shows, horses were asked to perform only at the walk and jog or trot.

We partnered with the 100 Mile Outriders riding club to bring the first (hopefully annual) Thompson-Cariboo Show Circuit, to encourage our horse show competitors to venture out of their home town “comfort zone”, and to increase the number of riders competing in each club’s shows.

High Point Paint Horse Award: The winner has to be riding a registered Paint, and this is a combination of both the shows and gymkhanas;  Jane Leamy with Texas Style Rose

In 2013 the B&DRC will be again hosting several horse shows, gymkhanas, clinics, trail rides and other activities for the horse enthusiasts of our area. New members are always welcome. It’s the 40th Anniversary for the B&DRC in 2013 so bring along your enthusiasm and ideas to help us make 2013 our best year ever.
