The Terrace River Kings face off against Kelowna Sparta in their first Coy Cup game at 4 p.m. today, March 28, and coach Kevin Legros says they are ready to go.

“The guys are excited to get going today,” said Legros. “We got here Sunday, so we’ve had lots of time to rest, and we had a really good practice yesterday,” he added.

The River Kings have never played Kelowna Sparta, but the Whitehorse Huskies have beaten Kelowna earlier this season, and the River Kings beat the Huskies in the Coy Cup last year.

There are no prior Coy Cup champions in the tournament this week, as none of the four teams facing off have won the B.C. AA men’s championship before.

After tonight’s game, Terrace will face the Whitehorse Huskies at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Then on the Thursday, they conclude the round robin with a game at 4 p.m. against North Island Capitals from Port Hardy.

Friday and Saturday are the semi-final and final games.

The River Kings have taken Coy silver for three years in a row and though it will be sharp competition, forward Tristan Murray said a few weeks prior that they are eager to have another shot at the cup.

“The Coy Cup kind of feels like unfinished business for us,” he said. “It’s good to get another crack at it.”
