Riverites fare well at Mill Bay wrestling tourney

Campbell River sent a large contingent of wrestlers to the Cougar Invitational held in Mill Bay last Saturday.

Timberline Secondary’s team had a strong showing, with seven wrestlers coming home as medalists. Earning bronze were Mitchell Nessel, Colby Ladret, and Carsyn Coward. Casey Kletke won a silver medal, and both Joel House and Conlan Foy brought home the gold in their respective classes.

“It’s really great to see such strong performances from the Timberline team,” said head coach Paul Murphy. “The Mixed Martial Arts P.E. program has a wrestling component, and it’s great to see some of these kids participate in tournaments like this one.”

Carihi sent a small group to the tournament and both Ali McPhee and Petro-Kindy-Olesen finished at the top of the podium, winning gold medals.

Phoenix was well represented, as 10 members of the team finished in the top three of their respective divisions. Sadie Dowler won a bronze medal. Winning silver medals were Chymira Alsager, Brayden Alsager, Holten Ewing, Lexus Wills, Rain Samuel, Kamryn Kerluck, and Kaitlyn Jinda. Scott Assu and Hailey Ricard returned home with gold medals.

Campbell River Christian School’s only entry into the tournament, Keagan Milliken, wrestled hard and won a bronze medal.
