Goaltender Tye Belanger, coming off a stellar game last weekend, is look for a win in Calgary.

Roadtrip puts Langley’s Stealth in cow country

Goalie declares victory is the only thing on his teammates’ minds this weekend heading into the national lacrosse league game in Calgary.

After Colorado squeaked out a 4-3win in overtime against the Langley-based Stealth last weekend, the national lacrosse league team is off to Calgary in search of a win this weekend.

In week two of the season, the Vancouver Stealth pulled off a one-point win at the Saddledome in Calgary. A week later, the Roughnecks returned the favour, ruining the home opener inside the Langley Events Centre by beating the Stealth 14-10.

Well, it’s time for these two teams to do battle again.

So, it means a road trip for the Stealth (2-5), who go head-to-head with the Roughnecks (3-3) on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The Stealth have boasted the league’s top scorer for every single day of the season, except one, and that was last Sunday.

Shortly after faceoff, Corey Small would regain the top spot. Small continues to light up the league, scoring 17 goals, 31 assists and 48 points. Teammate Rhys Duch currently sits third on the league leaders list with 18 goals, 27 assists and 45 points.

Likewise, Tye Belanger has been a bright spot in the Stealth’s crease. Belanger started his second game in a row last Sunday making 43 saves and had a 0.811 save percentage.

“Our goal is to come out with a winning record in the middle third of the season,” said Belanger, who was named the first star of the game last week against the Colorado Mammoths.

“We had the effort in the backend and I really think we should have won [the game against Colorado].”

Turning his attentions to the future, Belanger said: “We have to approach this next game in Calgary determined to do whatever it takes to come out on top. Winning is the only thing on our minds heading into the weekend.”
