The Kelowna Rockets kick off a home and home series with the Kamloops Blazers tonight (Friday) at Prospera Place, beginning the final seven weeks of the WHL regular season.
The Rockets (39-8-3-1) meet the Blazers (20-27-3-3) for the sixth and seventh times this season, having won the first five games in the season series, outscoring the Blazers 24-12 in those games.
Kelowna captain Madison Bowey says the Rockets will look to build on the positive things that happened during a road trip last week through the WHL Central Division that saw the team go 3-0-0-1.
“Kamloops is a big rival for us, they work really hard and play a good team game,” said Bowey. “We’re just going to take away all the hard work and good things we did on the road trip. I think it’s going to be a fun weekend for sure.”
Following Friday night’s game at Prospera Place, the Rockets and Blazers will meet in Kamloops on Saturday night.
This weekend’s games are the beginning of four games in five nights for Kelowna. The Rockets also play Monday, hosting a special 2 p.m. game against the Prince George Cougars at Prospera Place before traveling to Seattle to play the Thunderbirds on Tuesday night.

The Rockets and Black Mountain Golf Course announced the 3rd Annual Winter Classic pond hockey game for March 1 this year at Black Mountain. Featuring a Kelowna Minor Hockey team against the Rockets, the Winter Classic is a fundraiser for the YMCA’s Strong Kids campaign…The Rockets were once again ranked second in the weekly CHL Top 10 rankings voted on by a panel of NHL scouts. Other WHL teams ranked are Brandon (fourth), Medicine Hat (seventh) and Everett (10th). The Oshawa Generals of the OHL hold down the top ranking.
