The Thompson Okanagan Female Midget AAA Rockets brought home a championship win in the 17U gold division at the recent 2011 Martin Luther King Tournament in San Jose, California.
In Game 1, the Rockets were down 3-1 versus the Colorado Selects with 12 minutes left in the third period when they rallied with four unanswered goals to win. Scoring for the Rockets from Salmon Arm were: Janessa Jenkins and Shylah Gibb, with Gibb also getting an assist.
Game two versus the 19U San Jose Jr. Sharks saw the Rockets defeated 2-0.
In Game 3 versus the Anaheim Lady Ducks, the Rockets exploded to a 9-0 victory.
Scoring for the Rockets from Salmon Arm were Jenkins with three and Gibb with one. Assists went to Jenkins as well as Maggie Shykula-Ross.
Game 4 was versus the U19 San Jose Jr. Sharks playoff game for the U20 Championship. It was another fast-paced game, which the Sharks won 1-0.
In the championship match for the U17 Gold Division, the Rockets once against faced the Anaheim Lady Ducks. In a much more disciplined game from the Ducks, the Rockets were victorious 2-0.
Shykula-Ross picked up an assist in that contest.
