Rockets defeat Rebels and Thundercats

The Golden Rockets took on the Castlegar Rebels January 11 on home ice, with more than 400 fans cheering them on.

The Golden Rockets took on the Castlegar Rebels January 11 on home ice, with more than 400 fans cheering them on.

The Rebels kicked off the scoreboard, getting the first goal of the night in on the Golden Rockets. The visiting team did not let the Rockets score in the first period, although Golden pushed hard against them. Ryan Baker was able to block the rest of the shots on goal for the remainder of the first period.

Heading into the second period, Steven Bigam scored the first goal of the night for the Golden Rockets. After a good fight on the ice against the Rebels, the Rockets were able to score a second goal from Colton Hutchinson from Louis Ferraro and Jacob Dewar.

Already on a roll, Dominic Turner sunk the third goal into the Rebels’ net with an assist from Thomas Johnson, only to score another with the help of Chad MciLwain and Jaden Callan, ending the second period 4-1 against the Rebels.

In the third, the Rebels were only able to score one more goal against the Rockets, ending the game in a 4-2 win for the Golden Rockets.

During the game, Terry Cahill from Fubar visited, and wore his Golden Rockets jersey in the crowd. He helped cheer on the team to victory, and later hosted karaoke at the Taps.

The next night, the Golden team travelled to Creston to take on the Thundercats.

The Golden Rockets were able to get two up on the Creston Thundercats in the first period, with a goal by Bryce Trimmer from Turner and Riley Egan, and a second goal by Hutchinson from Dewar and Ferraro. The Thundercats attempted 20 shots on the Rockets, while the Rockets only had 14 shots on goal during the first period.

Turner turned up the heat, and scored the first goal in the second period, unassisted. The Thundercats retaliated with one goal, and after a tough few minutes, the Rockets started slamming them in against the Thundercats with the fourth goal by Callan from Briar Whyte and Turner, and a fifth goal by Alex Johnson from Whyte, ending the second period in a 5-1 score for the Rockets.

The Golden Rockets didn’t stop there, keeping the goals coming against the Thundercats into the third period. Turner scored the sixth goal of the night with help from Callan and Baker. He also scored the next goal from Egan and Callan. Dewar sunk his shot in the Thundercats’ net, bringing the score up 8-1 with an assist by Ferraro and Terrell Vekved, and Ferraro sunk the ninth goal from Janson Pashniak and Thomas Johnson. The Thundercats snuck one final goal in before the end of the third, and the Golden Rockets scored the final goal of the night by Hutchinson from Ferraro and Vekved, ending the intense night in a 10-2 win for the Rockets.

The Rockets faced off next against the Kimberley Dynamiters in Golden on Saturday, January 15.

The next home game is Sunday, January 20 at 4 p.m. against the Creston Thundercats.
